In the midst of a cold Melbourne autumn, which was more resembling winter, and with my partner heading off to a week long conference on the Gold Coast, I decided the only sensible thing to do was to tag along with our daughter for a week in the sunshine.  My stash of Velocity Frequent Flyer points took care of the flights for Miss 1 and I, and our apartment was within walking distance of the Gold Coast Convention Centre for Steve and beachfront for the girls.

Right in the bustling heart of Broadbeach, Air on Broadbeach has stunning self contained apartments with views sweeping across the gorgeous Gold Coast beaches, mountainous hinterland and the skyscrapers of Surfers Paradise.  Directly across the road from the beach, Air on Broadbeach is located above the Oasis Shopping Centre and just minutes walk to the restaurants, cafes and nightlife that Broadbeach is known for.

The Property:

If you are considering staying in Broadbeach, this is a perfect location – right near the beach and with supermarket and restaurants located in the complex just below the apartments.  Pratten Park is a great kids playground just across the road. The views from the rooms are stunning and whilst the the rooms aren’t specifically designed for kids, with the addition of child gates in our two level apartment, it was safe and fun even for toddlers and crawlers.

Our Room:

We stayed in a 3 bedroom sky villa (multi level, north facing) at Air on Broadbeach.   These self contained apartments have floor to ceiling windows with breathtaking views of the ocean and coast.  The kitchen has everything you could need for a dinner party, and there is a full laundry as well as a second small living area. In short – its bigger than our house!  I used the kitchen to prepare heaps of our meals during our stay and found it to be really well stocked for everyday cooking.

In the 3 bedroom villa there are 2 bedrooms upstairs and one downstairs. Each bedroom has access to its own bathroom – and the master has a super spacious standalone bath and walk in shower – with its own views of the beach and mountains.

Kids facilities:

Hire of kids facilities is all at an additional charge and is organised by Air on Broadbeach when you make your booking.  We decided to bring our own portacot with us (as Virgin allows a cot, pram and car seat for an infant to be taken as checked baggage at no charge), but organised for hire of a high chair as well as safety gates for the bottom of the stairs and the door of our upstairs bedroom.

Hotel facilities:

Facilities available to guests of the hotel:

  • Free wifi with good service
  • 25 metre outdoor lap pool
  • Shallow, shaded kids wading pool
  • Tennis court
  • Indoor gym
  • BBQ area
  • Free parking in the multi level carpark

In The Area:

– Just a couple of minutes walk from the apartment complex is the beachside Pratten Park, a huge gated playground with a giant sandcastle with sandpits, swings, slides and plenty of space to run around.

– Getting around the Gold Coast beachside suburbs is now really easy with the light rail service – G:link running from Broadbeach to north of Southport.  There is a stop just a few minutes away from Air on Broadbeach and you can easily take prams on to the tram.

– Head downstairs to the Oasis Shopping Centre to grab your groceries at Woolworths, get your morning coffee fix from Base Espresso and stock up with some beach toy supplies from Broadbeach Oasis News.
