After a week on the Gold Coast for a conference, we decided to extend our trip and add on a long weekend in one of our favourite holiday spots, Byron Bay. Around an hours drive south from Coolangatta, this little coastal town has certainly developed a lot over the past few decades, but still retains its relaxed, friendly charm.

Surfers

We had often seen the First Sun Holiday Park when walking along the beach and had thought it would be a great place to stay. For this trip we decided to try it out and were lucky enough to be able to book into one of the beachfront cabins at last minute.

Our Cabin

We stayed in a Seahorse Cabin which had two bedrooms, a bathroom and a small open plan kitchen / living area and a spacious balcony with outdoor table and barbecue overlooking the remainder of the park, through to the beach.

The Property

Just across the grass and past a row of camper van sites is the beach entry.  It’s about a dozen or so stairs down to the beach. It’s a great little swimming beach for kids and the water temperature was perfect on a sunny day in May.

The holiday park has a laundry with washing machines and dryers as well as clotheslines.  There is also a large communal kitchen and BBQ facilities.  There’s a small store onsite at the front office as well as free WiFi throughout the park.

In the Area

From First Sun, it’s literally a few seconds walk to the township and to all of the great cafes and restaurants of Byron Bay. Around a five minute walk away is the local Coles supermarket where you can buy anything your might need for your stay.

The closest playground is at Main Beach, next to the Surf club, about a five minutes walk away.  On our past visits to Byron, we’ve previously rented beach houses or stayed in serviced apartments, but considering its fantastic location and the conveniences we had in the cabin, we couldn’t fault our stay at First Sun.

See A Guide to Byron Bay with kids for plenty of things to do and places to eat nearby.
